Abstract

Natural fiber composites have strong potential to replace glass fiber composites. Recently, the usage of natural fiber composites has increased in various engineering applications. Flax fiber can be used as a natural reinforcement in natural fiber composites. Flax fibers are cost-effective and offer specific mechanical properties comparable to those of glass fibers. Drilling process is one of major machining process that is utilized to make holes in composite structures. Studying the effects of drilling parameters on feature properties of natural fiber composites has great advantages. In this regard, to obtain a good quality hole in composite parts, appropriate selection of drill bit and cutting parameters is important. This paper investigates delamination behavior of flax/epoxy composite laminates in response to feed, spindle speed, and drill bit material. As indicated by results, drill bit material and feed have greater influences on the delamination factor and hole quality.
