Abstract

In this work, the bubble nucleation of supercritical carbon dioxide in Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) at different temperatures and pressures were studied.The solubility and diffusivity of CO2 in PMMA were determined by using amagnetic suspension balance (MSB). A visual observation batch system consists of a high-pressure stainless steel cell, pressure gage, and two sapphire windows on both sides were used in this study. Also, a microscope equipped with a digital camera was attached to the observation system. The relationship between bubble nucleation and growth with solubility of supercritical CO2 was observed. The results show that bubble density during the process can be controlled by changing the temperature and the pressure release rate. It was found that the average bubble density was increased with pressure inceremt due to solubility increment.
