Abstract

In the current research, Ti-10Mo-X (TiC&TiB2) porous composites prepared by spark plasma sintering method, that have different ceramic reinforcement values of 0.5 and 2.0, were used as substrate. The effect of reinforcements on the nucleation of the calcium phosphate during the electrodeposition at a DC current density of 0.7 mA.cm-2 was studied. Optical electron microscope (OM) was used to evaluate the porosity distribution in the substrate. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), X-Ray Energy Distribution Spectroscopy (EDS), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) were used to investigate the morphology, chemical and phase composition in the applied coating, respectively. Substrate surface topography (Ra) and wettability values were also measured by roughness and static drop wettability tests. AFM analysis was also employed to study the surface roughness of the coating. The results confirmed that the amount of reinforcement influenced the morphology of the CaP coating. Moreover, the XRD patterns confirmed that the resulting coatings mainly contained the hydroxyapatite (HA) phase. Also, immersion test in the SBF showed appropriate biocompatibility of the coated samples.
