By increasing environmental effects of using fossil fuels to generate electricity power, devel-opment and utilization of renewable energy sources (RESs) including wind turbine and pho-tovoltaic systems are increasing everyday all around the world. To accommodate the tradi-tional power systems with RESs the concept of microgrid is provided which is defined as a combination of controllable loads and distributed energy resources (DER) which can be uti-lized in grid-connected or islanded modes. In this chapter, first different types of MGs are detailed and then developed different energy management systems in the literature are provided. In addition, utilized different objective functions, constraints and communication systems in the literature are presented.
