Abstract

According to the importance of demand response programs in power distribution networks as one of the main factors of declining network demand, it is necessary that the effect of contribution of load shifting programs be studied separately. In addition smart grids spatially in distribution level, play a significant role in future power networks. Accordingly, the optimal scheduling of such networks, considering the contribution of wind generation and energy storage systems inconsiderably is concerned in recent research studies. This chapter proposes an optimal modeling method for day-ahead scheduling of smart distribution networks. The proposed method minimizes the total cost of energy and reserve requirement of distribution network in the presence of wind generation and energy storage system. In addition, participation of customers in both energy and reserve scheduling is rigorously formulated and through two case studies in the presence and nonpresence of demand response programs the operational cost of distribution network is compared. The proposed method is applied to an IEEE 33-bus distribution test network. Numerical results demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method.
