Abstract

The concept of smart home (SH) has recently gained significant popularity. Energy management system (EMS) of SHs can play an important role in optimizing the performance of SH’s appliances, managing load curve and improving energy efficiency. This paper is proposed to minimize the operation cost of the SH in winter in the presence of market price uncertainty. Therefore, information gap decision theory (IGDT) technique is employed to determine risk-averse and risk-taking strategies of buying/selling electricity from/to the electricity market under market price uncertainty in a realistic model. The robustness function is employed to illustrate the harmful aspects of uncertainty. Meanwhile, the opportunity function is employed to illustrate the beneficial aspects of uncertainty.
