Abstract

The design of rare earth zirconates (Ln2Zr2O7) as a remarkable class of materials with striking characteristics has been considered one of the most significant areas of research in recent times. Many investigations have indicated their promising and substantial applications in various fields, specifically in photocatalysis. Herein, the recent advances related to preparation methods and photocatalytic applications of Ln2Zr2O7 nanostructures have been presented. Various approaches for preparation of rare earth zirconates have been introduced due to technological significance of this class of materials. Briefly, the benefits and disadvantages of each preparation approach have been presented. Shape and grain size as well as chemical composition of the fabricated samples have been illustrated with SEM and TEM images as well as XRD or EDS patterns. At last, photocatalytic applications of Ln2Zr2O7 nanostructures and nanocomposites are highlighted. Ultimately, the perspectives on future exploration of Ln2Zr2O7 nanostructures, preparation approaches and photocatalytic applications are suggested.
