Abstract

The NdOCl-Nd2Sn2O7-SnO2 nanocomposites with different morphologies were synthesized via a facile saltassisted combustion procedure based on the reaction between tin (IV) chloride and neodymium nitrate, in presence of the mixtures of citric acid and different amino acids as fuel and capping agent as well as sodium chloride as dispersing agent. This research is the first successful attempt for the synthesis of NdOCl-Nd2Sn2O7-SnO2 nanocomposites by utilizing sodium chloride via a simple salt-assisted combustion way in presence of the mixtures of citric acid and different amino acids as fuel and capping agent. The as-obtained NdOCl-Nd2Sn2O7-SnO2 nanocomposites were characterized by UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis (EDX). Based on the morphological studies of the as-obtained products, it was found that the shape and grain size of the NdOCl-Nd2Sn2O7-SnO2 nanocomposites depended on the Sn precursor and amino acid sort. NdOCl-Nd2Sn2O7-SnO2 nanocomposites with various grain sizes and shapes were successfully produced. In addition, the photocatalytic behavior of as-obtained NdOCl-Nd2Sn2O7- SnO2 nanocomposites was evaluated by photodegradation of erythrosine dye as water pollutant.
