In this work, polylactic acid (PLA) as hydrophilic polymeric material has been used to improve the performance of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) membranes. The effect of the amount of PLA on the PVC membrane properties was investigated. With the increase in the amount of the PLA the membrane porosity and water uptake were increased. Owing to the improved surface hydrophilicity (lower water contact angle), the PLA/ PVC membranes also exhibited higher water flux than that of neat PVC membrane. The obtained results showed that PLA is proper candidate to be used to modify PVC membrane, leading to enhanced water treatment process.
