Abstract

This paper uses finite element modeling to explore the flow behavior and deformation characteristics of AA1100 aluminum alloy during processing by cross channel angular pressing (Cross-ECAP). It was demonstrated that the imposed plastic strain during each pass is higher in the middle regions of sample compared with the outer regions. Therefore, it was inferred that the uniform plastic deformation cannot be achieve by Cross-ECAP. The damage accumulation and the pressing force are among the main parameters investigated in the present study. Results showed that the pressing force variations with deformation pass is not significant and may be the consequence of the work hardening occurred in material during plastic deformation. The near surface regions exhibited higher amounts of accumulative damage during processing and it was deduced that this regions are prone to the formation of superficial cracks.
