Abstract

In the present paper, the influences of die geometry parameters including channel angle and length ratio (L/D) are investigated in equal channel angular pressing with parallel channels using two dimensional finite element simulation. It has been shown that die parameters play an important role in the magnitude and homogeneity of the plastic strain applied on samples. The results also demonstrated that increasing the L/D ratio improves the strain homogeneity of the deformed sample. The temperature rise and pressing force are also determined and it was demonstrated that the deformation heating causes the temperature of sample to be increased in the deformation zones. The results also indicated that the amount of temperature rise and pressing force decreases with increasing the die channel angle at a constant L/D ratio.
