Abstract

In this study, a compression cooling cycle for the purpose of cooling in tropical regions of Iran was simulated by engineering equation solver (EES) software. In these simulations, different compressors with different efficiencies were considered. The working fluid was R134a, which is more compatible with the environment. The calculations were conducted for the compression cooling cycle; both coefficients of performance (COP) and the consumption of electrical energy in the compressors were determined for a four-story building located at Bandar Abbas with the construction area of 300 m2. Furthermore, the possibility of substituting compression cooling cycle with a solar absorption cooling cycle was studied. Required surface area of solar collectors to supply enough heat for the generator in the absorption chiller was calculated. The calculations showed that utilization of solar collectors with appropriate surface area provide enough thermal energy for the absorption cooling cycle using free solar energy, which makes it possible to decrease the consumption of electrical energy to zero for the cooling of buildings in tropical regions of Iran.
