Title Fabrication and Performance Evaluation of Polycarbonate and Chitosan Nanocomposite Membranes in Water Purification
Type Presentation
Keywords Polymer Nanocomposite, Polycarbonate membrane, Chitosan nanoparticles, Surface roughness.
Abstract Water is vital in advancing human civilization across various sectors, including the economy, agriculture, society, health, education, and international relations. Among traditional purification methods, Polymer Nanocomposite membrane technology is particularly effective in removing contaminants. In this study, Thin film nanocomposite membranes (TFN) were fabricated using Chitosan nanoparticles. To create TFN membranes, the dip coating method was used, applying polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/Chitosan solution on polycarbonate (PC) supporting membranes. Verification of the PVA/Chitosan top active layer on the PC support membrane was conducted using attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) equipment. According to the Atomic force microscopy (AFM) images, it was found that the Ra, Rq, and Rz values decreased as the content of Chitosan nanoparticles increased up to 1 wt.%.
